“Georges Descombes is one of the stalwarts of Beaujolais. Inspired by the late Marcel Lapierre in the early 1980s when he worked for his father’s bottling company, he is one of the more well-known of the natural producers since taking over the domaine in the hamlet of Vermont from his father in 1988, with all but a half a hectare to his name. Some refer to him as the unofficial fifth member of the “Gang of Four.” Nowadays, he farms about 16 hectares in Brouilly, Régnié, Morgon, Beaujolais Villages, Beaujolais and Chiroubles, the vineyard husbandry organic (certified Ecocert) and using just copper and sulfur.” —Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate, Issue 213, 6/26/14

This is dense and dark and quite reserved for the time being. A sauvages nose of excellent tang. It goes in the mouth rich and plush, with an orange freshness. It has lasting juice and density and fabulous crunch to the fruit. Delicious. A classy and fabulous example. Bowes Wine original note
"Bright violet. Expansive black raspberry, cherry and floral scents, along with suggestions of licorice, smoky minerals and allspice. Concentrated yet also lively in character, offering bitter cherry and dark berry flavors that are enlivened by an undercurrent of juicy acidity. Pliant tannins shape the finish, which hangs on with strong, spicy persistence and building florality." Josh Raynolds
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
