A very Grand (Cru) Omission

There was a sizeable omission on our offering of the 2015 wines of Francois Lamarche: the top wine from this important estate.

Our allocation of this wine is not what one might call big. But if you would like some, do let me know and I will see what I can do. Priority will be given to those buying other wines from the offer.

N.B. I buy this wine every vintage for my investment account (secretly hoping that bottles of each vintage end their lives via ghastly corkscrew violence).

2015 La Grande Rue Grand Cru, Francois Lamarche
£2,100 in bond per 6  Drink 2021-2040

A nose deep, ripe and complex. Fruit is dark and snappy and there's something spacious and airy about the nose, like the smell one would get standing in a Pinot Noir cathedral. I found fresh, dew-picked plums and a black raspberry purity. There's a hint of mint, too: a smell that is sometimes indicative of new wood. The fruit on entry is really very rich: supple, big and ripe. There's an almost invisible core of very fine minerality. A direct, linear and juicy wine. Has stock in reserve. Super-long and busy wine this and showing a delicious swathe of fruit and that freshness. Endless, the length picking up some piquant spice. A marvel.
