2019 Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Boutière Rouge, Bachelet Monnot

2019 Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Boutière Rouge, Bachelet Monnot

Ref: BACH194
Red  |  Still  |  13.5% ABV

Marc and Alex Bachelet have rapidly taken their 10 hectare domaine to the top of the Burgundy hierarchy. They work their vineyards naturally, eschewing herbicides. And they practice pre-ox for their whites, a technique whereby the pressed juice is allowed to oxidise before fermentation, stabilising the finished wine and obviating the risk of prem-ox i.e. the wine ageing prematurely. A domaine renowned for their electric white wines, do not ignore their reds, which are utterly delicious too. The domaine headquarters are in the delightfully-named Dézize-lès-Maranges, in the very south of the Côte de Beaune.

Tasting Notes

Deep blue-ish ruby: lovely colour. Dark, a touch smoky, with a hint of violet to the snappy black plum fruit. There’s again something sweetly ripe here.  And lots of sweet spice, plus a mild chocolate thing. Richer and darker, as ever. Picks up very good tang along the way, as well as a violet continuation. Rich burgundy, with integrated, spicy tannins that pull themselves increasingly upright, become increasingly incisive. Finishes in nippy structure, with really fresh incisive grip. Very long. Perhaps more dimension at the finish.  Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
