2010 Côte Rôtie Côte Brune, Gilles Barge

2010 Côte Rôtie Côte Brune, Gilles Barge

Ref: BARG100
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

There have been Barges active in wine in the northern Rhône Valley since the mid-19th century and they started bottling some of their own wine in the 1920s (they were among the first to do so here). However, it wasn't until the 1960s that production stepped up to commercial levels and by 1974 they were bottling 100% of their production. Gilles Barge was President of the Côte Rôtie Growers` Syndicat and the first among his peers to attend wine making college.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"dark, thorough red-black robe; has a licorice- filled, smoky, tight aroma that also reflects sizzled bacon, crisp airs, a bouquet that is set to fly around 2017. The palate`s blackberry fruit has tight tannin around it, and inside lies a definite gras richness; it underscored by the top crispness. This is very profound, and lengthens well. It ends on a taste of black cherries, is a proper, full wine. 2030-32 May 2012." John Livingstone-Learmonth

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
