2013 La Grande Rue Grand Cru, François Lamarche

2013 La Grande Rue Grand Cru, François Lamarche

Ref: LAMA133
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

This domaine has its roots at the start of the 20th century when Henri Lamarche, a cooper, married Marie Grivelet from Chambolle-Musigny. Henri started making his own wines and selling them directly from the estate. It was his son who gained the La Grande Rue vineyard from his wife's family by way of a dowry. This was in the 1930s when there wasn't great demand for burgundy and grands crus attracted more tax, so M Lamarche decided to leave the vineyard as a premier cru (this is despite its location between La Tâche and Romanée-Conti). In 1989 La Grande Rue was elevated to grand cru status by the INAO. Lamarche bottles 14 different wines from a little more than 10 hectares of vineyards.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 La Grande Rue Grand Cru has a backward and broody bouquet, very complex with hints of woodland, damp earth and fern filtering through the tightly wound red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple and very fine, almost filigree tannins. The acidity is beautifully judged here -- very focused and refined, seamless towards the sophisticated finish. This is one of the best vintages of La Grand Rue that I have tasted, which is a considerable achievement given that this was not an exemplary growing season." Neal Martin

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
