2024 Le Petit Caboche, Domaine du Père Caboche

2024 Le Petit Caboche, Domaine du Père Caboche

Ref: PERE240
Red  |  Still  |  14.5% ABV

Now that Jean-Pierre Boisson, former long-serving mayor of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, has retired, the responsibility for winemaking at Domaine du Père Caboche has been admirably taken over by his daughter Emilie and son Nicolas. Members of the Boisson family have been both vignerons and blacksmiths for generations. The family nickname of Caboche derives from the old Provençal word for 'horseshoe nails'. Their Vieilles Vignes cuvée is named after Elisabeth Chambellan, a local blacksmith's daughter who married Jean-Louis Boisson in 1772.

N.B. This is 40% Caladoc, 30% Marselan, 15% Egiodola, 15% Syrah
Like Châteauneuf-du-Pape but not necessarily the price? Consider this a Châteauneuf-du-local-priest. Despite its fascinating blend, this could be nothing but a southern Rhône wine. Nose is scented and pure, showing dark, lightly smoky fruit with a veneer of those southern spices. There was a hint of muscovado sugar from the glass just as I raised it to take a sip. Once sipped, it delivers fine concentration in its dark, plum fruit. What impressed further was the finesse in its structure of fresh acidity and extremely fine, integrated tannin. Wild and elegant. A scrum half in a ballgown perhaps… Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
