2009 Château Haut Brion, Pessac-Léognan

Ref: BORD0945
Red  |  Still  |  14.3% ABV

It seems that vines have been grown on this spot (now within the suburbs of the city of Bordeaux) since Roman times but a chateau was not built on the site until the mid 16th century. The estate had been owned by the de Pontac family who acquired it as a dowry in the early 16th century. in the mid 17th century M de Pontac marketed his wine heavily in London, especially at the royal court, where Kind Charles II drank Haut-Brion on a regular basis. Pepys was drinking Haut Brion at the pub in 1663, commenting on its quality. In May 1935 the peoperty was bought by American Clarence Dillon. Domaine Clarence Dillon added La Mission Haut Brion in 1983. Haut Brion has just over 50 hectares of vines,r ed and white, planted on sand and gravel.

N.B. 46% Merlot, 40% Cab Sauv, 14% Cab Franc. 14.3%abv. A very fresh nose and a really floral one. Bramble and plum fruit, along with hints of chocolate. Plush, a touch creamy and very mineral on entry. The tannins are nutty, tacky. This is very cool and very fresh. There's a floral, almost orange-y flavour here. Very, very long and becoming super-juicy. Lovely, mouth-coating, woody ending. Peppery juice right at the back. A dry wine and a highly structured one. Peppery, tacky rich tannins. Superb. Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
