Pietroso started in Montalcino in the 1970s thanks to the passion of winemaker Domenico Berni. His aim was to produce a limited quantity of fine wines from Montalcino's vineyards. Today the business is run by family member Gianni Pignattai who also has the expertise of Alex Dondi, an enologist and Federico Becarelli, an agronomist. The farm covers 13 hectares, 5 are cultivated with vines for the production of Brunello di Montalcino and there is one hectare of olive trees.

"Pietroso's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino opens to smoky tones of ash and brimstone followed by dried cherry and plum. The alcohol is listed at 14% and you feel the power immediately. Within a few minutes in the glass, it begins to offers more fruit tones although they are definitely on the dry side, including prune, fig and cassis. The medium-bodied mouthfeel offers compact structure and polished tannins. This is a good effort but not an overwhelming one." Monica Larner
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
