2010 Brunello di Montalcino Piaggone, Salicutti

Ref: SALI100
Red  |  Still  |  14% ABV

Francesco Leanza built up one of the most admired estates in Montalcino: a properly boutique winery of just over two hectares. The wines he crafted are classy, elegant expressions of the Sangiovese grape (here called Brunello). Francesco has now sold his estate to a consortium of German restaurateurs.

"Salicutti’s 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Piaggione lifts from the glass with the most exquisite aromatics imaginable. The 2010 has really come together over the last six months. I suppose that should not be too much of a surprise, as the 2010 was bottled later than normal, but I am still deeply impressed with how nuanced and complete the Piaggione is today. Proprietor Francesco Leanza has done a fabulous job elevating these wines over the last few years. This is another Brunello that on any other night is the best wine on the table. Tonight it is merely sublime and haunting in its beauty." Antonio Galloni

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
