Grattamacco origins lie way back in 1977 when the first vineyard was planted here by owner Piermario Meletti Cavallari. In 2002 Grattamacco was sold to the Colle Massari group, owned by the Bertarelli family, whose fortune came from pharmaceuticals and biotech.

Fruit on the nose here has good snap, is red and black, offering undercurrents of earth and spice. There’s a wisp of orange thread running through it, adding complexity and that complexity continues on the entry of the palate, which is rich and plush: a product of this warmer vintage. In the mouth it quickly collects a core of earth-textured structure: rich, assertive, earthy tannin. There’s bold spice to be found here. It’s a nuttily-structured wine of slightly creamy-dark, delicious fruit, supported by big, upright, nutty grip. There’s a spice at the back that is almost peppery and it is dotted with liquorice throughout. A boldly dense and incisively fresh wine. Bowes Wine original note
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
