2015 Taurasi Radici, Mastroberardino

Ref: MAST150
Red  |  Still  |  13.5% ABV

The Mastroberardino family has lived in this part of Campania - and worked in wine - for well over two centuries. For many years they almost single-handedly carried the flag for Campanian wine. The winery is located in Irpinia, the meeting place of three great DOCGs: the white Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo, and the red Taurasi.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

N.B. Taurasi is made from the great Aglianico grape, both DOCG and variety suffering a lack of exposure due to their home locale in southern Italy. Just as Taurasi is one of Italy's greatest and most age-worthy red wines, so is Aglianico one of the world's finest red grapes.

This is already one seriously complex and fascinating wine. Aromas are just starting to mature, giving up tertiary scents of singe, red fruit, leather and sandalwood. It goes in the mouth plush and cool, very mineral-fresh and direct. There's iodine within the considerable length and a wealth of fine, integrated, tacky tannin. There's spice lurking here, too. Fabulous, seriously fine red wine. Bowes Wine original note

"Precise, direct and linear, but by no means simple, carrying smoky, saline, rocky mineral savoury layers. Long. Classy." jancisrobinson.com

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
