Jules Lafon was born in March 1864 in south-west France. Thirty years later he married a girl whose family owned vineyards and made wine in Meursault. Jules was made a count by the Roman catholic church and went on to create the paulée in Meursault: a party to celebrate the end of harvest. Jules acquired a number of new vineyards to add to the estate's production. The domaine has been run by Dominique Lafon since 1984.

"The restrained but fantastically complex aromas are ripe, pure and elegant, indeed one can simply smell this and be knocked out. Like the Perrières, there are copious amounts of dry extract, which imparts a wonderfully seductive character to the textured and classy broad-shouldered flavors that possess excellent mid-palate fat on the opulent, refined, mouth coating and palate staining finish that is mildly austere as well as hugely long. This will require plenty of patience from those fortunate enough to acquire a few bottles but the good news is that it will live for years to come." Burghound
