2015 Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta, Castello Romitorio

2015 Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta, Castello Romitorio

Ref: ROMI151
Red  |  Still  |  14% ABV

Romitorio was close to the epicentre of the Etruscan empire. The foundations of the castle itself probably date from Roman times. It was for years a monastery before being fortified in the times of strife between Siena and Florence. Subsequently a country villa, it was nevertheless abandoned after WWII and stood empty for many years. After a period as a shepherds' hospice, Romitorio was bought by Baron Giorgio Franchetti in the 1970s. The baron started a program of refurbishment, but never completed it, and the property was sold again in 1984 to Sandro Chia, a well-known artist. Chia's son Filippo now runs the estate and has gained international recognition for its wines.

Tasting Notes

"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta is sourced from a selection of vines planted around the Romitorio winery, and showcases it’s high-elevation fruit (approximately 3,250 feet). Here I find a gorgeous and earthy bouquet of dusty soil, crushed stone, leather and dried red florals, as bright cherry comes forward, both lifting but also intensifying the experience. On the palate, soft textures envelope the senses in ripe dark red fruits, with spicy depths and a beam of laser like acids, as saline-minerals saturate the senses amidst pretty inner floral tones. The finish is long and structured, resonating of mineral-laden dark fruit, a twang of savory herbs and spices, with lasting fine tannins. This is gorgeous and built for the long haul. 96/100." Eric Guido

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
