2007 Côte-Rôtie Côte Rozier, Bonnefond

2007 Côte-Rôtie Côte Rozier, Bonnefond

Ref: BONNE070
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

Charles Bonnefond bought a single hectare of vines in 1955, so began the Domaine Bonnefond. The production was sold to the negociants until the 1990s when they started bottling their own wine. Running the estate since 1990 brothers Patrick and Christophe work c. 7 hectares of vines with an average age of 30 years. They employ a lot of new oak here, so it is always worth giving the wines a great deal of air after opening.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

The nose here is a beautiful ripe expression of pure Syrah fruit. There are floral notes to the dark cherry and plum fruit, along with a hint of the smoky wood (this saw 50% new oak). There are also wisps of peppery tar. This is rich, but very fresh and pure. The tannins are also very rich, but they are wholly integrated into the fruit, nutty and upright. There’s high grip to be found here and excellent tension at the back. Pure, black cherry and plum fruit of the most beautiful sort. Very backward wine; have patience! Very long and complete. I thought this the best wine in the cellar this year. Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
