2013 Le Soula Blanc, Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes

2013 Le Soula Blanc, Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes

Ref: SOUL130
White  |  Still  |  13.5% ABV

In the 1990s Roy Richards and Mark Walford were importing the Roussillon wines of Gérard Gauby into England. Gerard, convinced that vines in the cooler climate of the Fenouillèdes, high up in the foothills of the Eastern Pyrenees of South West France, had real potential for producing wine of great quality, suggested that they form a partnership to exploit them. Together they bought vines in the best sites, and an old house in the high altitude village of Saint Martin de Fenouillet, in the heart of the vineyards. The house became Soula’s first cellar and from the first vintage in 2001, the red and white wine began to establish its reputation for wines of purity, vitality and individuality, a reputation that remains to this day.

N.B. This is 32% Vermentino, 30% Sauvignon, 20% Macabeu, 14% Grenache Blanc, 3% Marsanne & Roussanne and 1% Grenache Gris. The nose a fascinating nut-inflected mix of orchard and citrus fruit brings to mind an especially fine Meursault. There’s a complexity to the aromas, with hints of the pine forest, plus a saline lick. Above all, it smells delicious. And it tastes delicious, too, with the nutty, refined fruit beneath which runs the lime-like acidity. There’s an earthiness to the minerality along its vast length. Phenomenally lovely thing.  Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
