The Aeolian Islands lie off Sicily’s north east coast and it's here that we find the Tenuta di Castellaro on the island of Lipari. Here, 350 metres above sea level, are densely planted vineyards facing north-west. All vineyards are planted in the Etna alberello system: essentially, they are bush vines. This is volcanic land, the soils having the potential to bring fine minerality to the finished wine.

Colour is really cherry red in the glass and the nose is soft, of dark wild fruits, including damson, with a hint of dark chocolate. The palate offers instant fresh snap of acidity, and then the caressing, classy structure kicks in. Fruit is lively and more domestic than the nose would suggest. I found raspberry clad with a sort of crushed rock minerality. An utter delight. Bowes Wine original note
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
