2000 Brut Premier, Champagne Louis Roederer

2000 Brut Premier, Champagne Louis Roederer

Ref:
White  |  Sparkling  |  12.5% ABV

Louis Roederer inherited the family champagne business in 1833 and started buying the best vineyards he could acquire: unusual for the time, as most houses bought all their fruit from growers. In the late 19th century exports grew and a special cuvée - Cristal - was introduced for Tsar Alexander II of Russia. Another descendant created what became the non-vintage Brut Premier ion the 1920s with the aim of creating a consistent product that reflected the qualities of the house. On this wine the reputation of Roederer was further developed. To this day, Roederer remains an independent, family-owned business.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"Smells of putty – Lécaillon says this vintage always smells of oyster shells. A wine with a very strong character. Much more mature than the 2002. Deep yellow. Tight and fresh but without quite the generosity of the 2009 and 2002. Slightly floral note. Lovely on the nose but without enormous depth and just a tad dry on the end after a little initial sweetness." Jancis Robinson

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
