Louis Roederer inherited the family champagne business in 1833 and started buying the best vineyards he could acquire: unusual for the time, as most houses bought all their fruit from growers. In the late 19th century exports grew and a special cuvée - Cristal - was introduced for Tsar Alexander II of Russia. Another descendant created what became the non-vintage Brut Premier ion the 1920s with the aim of creating a consistent product that reflected the qualities of the house. On this wine the reputation of Roederer was further developed. To this day, Roederer remains an independent, family-owned business.

"Light, bright yellow. Intensely perfumed bouquet of melon, pear, jasmine and iodine, with mineral and buttered toast accents. Deeply pitched, palate-staining orchard and pit fruit and lemon pith flavors are brightened by zesty acidity and pick up a smoky nuance with air. Powerful but lithe, finishing with excellent thrust and lingering floral and mineral qualities." Josh Raynolds
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
