2022 Boggina Classico Riserva, Petrolo, Petrolo

2022 Boggina Classico Riserva, Petrolo, Petrolo

Ref: PETR221
Red  |  Still  |  14% ABV

Petrolo is a family-owned estate of just 26 hectares in the hills of the Val d'Arno, east of Chianti Classico. The estate has a history dating back to the 1700s, but it was in the 1990s that Petrolo established itself among the leading names of the Tuscan wine renaissance. Petrolo has also taken an increasingly natural approach to viticulture, farming organically and using dry farming, grassing and minimal intervention to encourage balance in the vineyard.

If Galatrona is Petrolo's great Merlot, Bòggina C is its equivalent expression of Sangiovese. From what the estate considers its finest Sangiovese vineyard, Bòggina C Riserva is given considerably more time and oak, spending approximately 18 months in carefully selected French oak barrels and tonneaux.

Tasting Notes

The organic Petrolo 2022 Val d'Arno di Sopra Riserva Bòggina C is made from 100% Sangiovese fermented in cement and aged in tonneaux and botti for 18 months. Shaped by a warm vintage, the wine offers medium richness with lively notes of cherry and redcurrant that lean into crushed flower, tea leaf and dried spice. There is a touch more heft and structure at the back. Sealed with red wax capsules, 5,800 bottles and larger formats were produced.Monica Larner

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
