Aglianico - Grape Variety

Aglianico produces dark, powerful fruit and produces wines of deep colour and rich structure. It is capable of producing wines of uncomfortably high and awkward tannin but handled correctly, it can also produce extremely high-quality wines, often with excellent freshness. Aglianico is found across southern Italy but most notably in the extremely age-worthy wines of Taurasi in Campania and Aglianico del Vulture in Basilicata. As a late-ripening variety, it favours areas where the summers are long; it is nowadays found in Australia, Texas and California, all of which offer suitably sunny climates.
